Reinventing Art

ArtCamp is an opportunity to groupthink art and the artworld. What does your artworld look like? How do you make art? What role does technology play in your artworld? If you could invent an artists funding system from scratch, what would it look like? What would your perfect artists social nework look like? Will we flourish or collapse under the strain. Where does art go in an increasingly networked world. What are we doing, where are we going. Maybe a day at ArtCamp can give you inspiration.

Bring work. Show work. Make work.  Propose projects. Network. Define movements. Find collaborators. Tell the world what you are doing and what you need to do it.

ArtCamp brings an idea from the tech world to the world of artists and arts organisations.

The idea of an ArtCamp is that everybody contributes and everybody benefits. A day of presentations, talks, show and tell, live art, whatever you want to do in the company of artists.

A Barcamp or Unconference is a self-organizing autonomous event where every participant is a contributor. At Barcamp, everybody brings along a presentation, a talk, a show, an event or whatever, that fits into a 30 minute or an hour slot. At ArtCamp we'll take the same structure, and encourage motorcycle transport artists to bring along something that they want to bring to the attention of other participants.

ArtCamp Tarjetas day

We need a gallery and about five other spaces to work with, but we're flexible. The idea is that everybody gathers in the gallery space in the morning and selects presenting slots.

The gallery walls can be filled with work from the evening before.

The 'breakout' spaces will include a dark space, video projectors, performance spaces,lego city talk and live action spaces. Whatever you need, we'll have it.

Presentations can be by individuals or groups. Choose your timeslot, enter your subject and away you go.

We have wi-fi for internet connections and no doubt will have an impromptu internet cafe in the gallery. Tea and coffee will be provided. It's FREE.

The aim is to make this a day for exploring, finding out and show and tell.

Show and tell

Involvement at ArtCamp could be a short talk, a presentation, performance, observation, standup comedy, slideshow or critique. Or none of the above. Events can be documented, spontaneous, scripted. They can be individual events, or could be a collaboration between two or more participants. Maybe a whole orchestra. We need a cadre of organisers who will help get this show on the road.

Cost

ArtCamp will be free for all participants. Anyone wanting to participate will be asked to sign themselves up online. Volunteers will be called for. Sponsors will be sought.

Open, dynamic, engaged

ArtCamp aims to be engaged, dynamic, open, collective. Hopefully ArtCamp will produce some new ideas around art and art practice.

Other ArtCamps

The first ArtCamps have been held over the last three years in Canada.

"ArtCamp aims to bring the open collaborative process of a wiki into physical space. It is a self-organizing event geared toward sharing practices and ideas on art, media, networks and culture. The idea is to create an event in which conference structures are overturned in favour of collective, self-organizational models. ArtCamp is an experiment in bringing these principles into action in the context of art discourse, production and practice."
